Accountant: Rainbow Schools – Gaborone Botswana

Role description: Rainbow Schools are looking for an experienced Accountant to oversee all accounting transactions including the collection, processing, reconciliation and reporting of financial data. The Accountant will maintain complete and accurate records of revenue, expenditure, assets, and liabilities, and ensure integrity of financial information. 

Minimum qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or similar field
  • Professional qualification as a Chartered Accountant with ACCA, BICA, CIMA or equivalent.
  • Active BICA membership or an internationally accredited institute of professional accountants
  • Minimum of 3-5 years post qualification experience in a similar role in a medium sized business.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Work experience within the education industry will be an added advantage.

Duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to): 

  • Oversee all accounting activities including accounts payables and receivables, fixed assets and maintenance of the general ledger (GL).
  • Preparation and reporting of monthly management accounts for presentation to the management team / board.
  • Preparation of annual capital and operational expenditure budgets and provide monthly variance analyses and reporting. 
  • Cashflow planning and management.
  • Enforcing and maintaining robust internal controls, processes and systems.
  • Monthly salary administration including monthly payroll processing, accounting, and reconciliations.
  • Monitor accounts receivables to ensure timeous invoicing and collections. 
  • Maintain accounts payables including supplier uploads, payment processing, reconciliations, and age analyses.
  • Ensure timely payment and accurate submissions to BURS.
  • Prepare supporting account reconciliations and schedules for all GL entries to support internal and external audit processes.
  • Petty cash management and record keeping.
  • Stay up to date with relevant legislation and Botswana tax laws.
